A family "domain name" is the perfect gift

By Sharon Airhart

(NC)-Having you own email address - "your-first-name@your-lastname.ca" - is a classy way to correspond with friends and family.

It's also one of the internet's fastest growing trends.

Having your own email address is also a convenient and inexpensive way to be sure you never again have to notify people of a change of email address. You keep your email address as long as you own the domain, no matter how many times you change internet service providers.
What's more, no one who knows your name will ever forget your email address.

At the cost of about 10 minutes of your time and roughly $30 to $40, depending on whether you want a ".com" or a ".ca" address, you can register your name as your domain at a domain name registrar like www.easyDNS.com.

Part of the registration process will allow you to set up as many as 100 email addresses at your domain. Every member of the family can have their own, unique email address and you can set up special email addresses for special purposes like club memberships or family reunions.

easyDNS.com will then forward any email addressed to "yourdomainname.com" to the email address that was supplied by your Internet Service Provider (Sympatico, Rogers, etc.) or to an email account at one of free email providers like Gmail or Hotmail.

Although email and web sites are not necessarily related, once you own a domain name, of course, you can even create a family web site.
