Are You An Email Junkie?

By mySeniorSite Staff

Are you an e-mail junkie? Most of us won't admit it, but you know who you are!

Many of us check our email a hundred times a day (maybe not quite that much) so wouldn't it be easier to have your e-mail check itself?

You can actually do that with Outlook Express! You can set your e-mail to check every one minute or every hour. Whatever you want! All you have to do is:
  • Open Outlook Express and go to Tools,
  • Go to Options and choose the General tab.
  • Look toward the middle of the box under the Send/Receive Messages section.
  • The very last choice there is "Check for new messages every (blank) minutes." Check that box and then choose the amount of time you want your e-mail to be checked.
You can either use the up and down arrows to set your time or just type it in. Then right below that, there is an option if your computer isn't connected to the Internet at the time of the scheduled check. You can either choose for it to not connect you, connect only when working offline or connect even when working offline. This is usually for those with dial-up connections.

New email notification sound

Stay really connected to your email by applying a sound each time a new email message is received. In Windows XP:
  • Go to Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Click on "Sounds Speech and Audio Devices"
  • Click on "Change the Sound Scheme"
  • Under "Program Events" scroll down until you come to "New Mail Notification". Click on it to confirm what sound is applied or change the sound by clicking on "browse" to find a new sound.
Now you'll be able to stay on top of your email whenever you're on or near your computer. It doesn't get easier than that!
