Giving Back to the Community
Detail oriented and approachable, George Kjenner
is an experienced security specialist who has worked
in the security industry for more than 35 years.
A 40
year plus resident of Campbell River, he has a soft
spot for giving back to the community and is
actively involved with several worthwhile
organizations including Campbell River Citizens on
Patrol, Speed Watch, Stolen Auto Recovery Program
and is a Director of the British Columbia Crime
Prevention Association.
George became involved with the Campbell River
Citizens on Patrol and Speed Watch in 1994 and is
still very much involved today. He says it’s like
belonging to a family and it is his belief that they
are helping to reduce crime and tragedy through
public awareness and therefore making the
communities a better place to live.
An
interesting concept that has been developed over the
past number of years is called the “JFO Speed
Corridor.” This covers the Inland Island highway and
or Highway 19A between Campbell River and
Parksville.
The
history of this event was born at a meeting held in
Courtenay BC on April 10, 2002 between
representatives from the three Speed Watch groups,
ICBC and the RCMP.
This
event is held during the week prior to the long
weekend in May.

Saluting our
Volunteers! |
|
"ICBC's investment in road safety includes the
support of volunteer based programs like "Citizens
on Patrol" and "Speed Watch." These programs, and
others, can make a significant impact in communities
by helping to reduce auto crime and unsafe speed.
The success of these initiatives is due, in no small
part, to the dedication of hundreds of volunteers
across Vancouver Island, Gulf Islands and Powell
River. In a salute to the wonderful work of our
volunteers, we have asked a few of them to describe
their experiences and motivation in their own
words." |
