| A trip to the
dentist never felt this good! |
|
(NC)-Relax and flash your pearly whites - Canadian
dentists can now treat cavities without the drill. Instead of
freezing and drilling, a new technology, HealOzone, applies ozone to
the affected tooth, killing cavity-causing bacteria in as little as
20 to 60 seconds. The whole ozone treatment takes about twenty
minutes while the average "drill and fill" procedure takes about
thirty-five minutes - allowing patients to get out of the dentist
office faster.
"It's no secret that most people don't like to go to
the dentist because of fears and anxieties related to needles and
drills. My patients are blown away when I tell them that I can treat
their cavities without any freezing or drilling," said Dr. Stephen
Gaines, a Canadian dentist. "Using HealOzone puts my patients at
ease and, with the absence of noise and vibration caused by the
drill, it keeps them relaxed, and gets them on their way, in no time
at all."
Ozone has been widely used in medicine and water
treatment plants and works to eliminate harmful micro-organisms and
toxins. In the mouth, ozone provides a bacteria-free environment for
the restrengthening of the tooth. After the treatment, the ozone is
then safely pumped back through the HealOzone device and is broken
down into oxygen and vented into the air.
The dentist uses a handheld device, which seals
around the tooth with a suction cup, and applies ozone to the
affected tooth. The ozone treatment can be applied in multiple areas
of the mouth in one sitting so patients don't need multiple
appointments to treat multiple cavities. HealOzone can be used for
both adults and children.
Teeth that have been treated using HealOzone can be
remineralized so that cavities in those areas are unlikely to
develop in the future. In more severe cases, HealOzone can be used
in conjunction with traditional treatment procedures to preserve
more of the tooth. Following a treatment, patients are advised to
take home a patient kit, which includes toothpaste, an oral rinse
and travel spray containing sodium fluoride.
"HealOzone provides my patients with an
ultra-conservative and minimally invasive option when it comes to
treating cavities," said Dr. Gaines. "During the time that I have
been using HealOzone, the positive feedback has been overwhelming.
Not only am I confident that it is a safe and effective treatment, I
am thrilled knowing that the days of huge fillings and root canals
might soon be a thing of the past."
