A Warm
Weather Adventure
Vancouver Island shelters (and showcases)
Spineless Sea Creatures, Mighty Mammals and
more.
For a warm weather adventure that is sure to
prove both out-of-the-ordinary and out-of-doors,
Vancouver Island offers up the idyllic natural
setting. And the Bamfield Marine Sciences
Centre provides the means.
With a summer educational program which embraces
all things unique to the island, visitors to the
centre can take an up-close view at a world few
rarely see
Take Spineless Sea Creatures, for
example. This hands-on look at the animals that
live at the edge of the sea promises curious
exploration and even a little enlightenment.
Birds of a Feather showcases a better
understanding (and a unique vantage point) of
the marine and coastal winged ones that call the
Island home.
Ever wonder about plankton? All mysteries are
sure to be revealed during The Big World of
Small Things when participants can take a
look at the smallest – and strangest – creatures
one will ever glimpse.
Underwater Garden promises some
one-on-one time with seaweed, while curious
explorers can discover all there is to know
about Kelp Farming during outdoor
excursions.
And then there’s the Mentors in Science –
where participants can dabble in biology for a
day while working alongside researchers in the
field.
Still have some energy? A Rainforest Walk
offers land-lubbers the opportunity to explore
the landscape’s hyper marine forest ecosystem
while Interpretive Beach Walks unearth
inter-tidal creatures most don’t even know
exist.
All programs begin with a behind-the-scenes tour
of the centre, complete with an opportunity to
meet researchers at work.
Bring along your rubber boots…as this is one
adventure that promises to get down and dirty.
